Nerd Time :)
Wednesday, July 25th, 2007My life has been boring since the end of the theater, so instead I’ll do what I normally do and talk about games.
This one is a little different from most I play… it’s called “Hellrising”, and is an MMORPG. It’s browser based, so anyone can play it (Well, as long as you have internet explorer 4 or so :P) and is heaps of fun. It is basically like an old text adventure game, with a slightly nicer console, with a small “map” in which you click one of 8 directions to move that way. There is no story, the game is simply based on wandering around, collectiong useful things like weapons and health packs, and killing other players (all human players too). There are three races: Human, Zombie and Vampire. Humans have the advantage of barricading buildings and using firearms, but when you die as a human, you have to wait for someone to inject a revival serum into you or else you become a vampire or zombie (depending on how you die). Vampires have the advantage of fangs which heal you as you attack other people, and a “cursed blood” skill which enables them to always rise as vampires when killed, regardless of how they die or if they are revived by a human. However their attacks do considerably less damage than, say, an assault rifle. I don’t really know about Zombies, since I haven’t played as one yet, but they seem pretty crap.
The game works via the use of “AP”, which stands for action points. An action point is used every time you perform an action such as moving, attacking, reviving, entering a building etc. You gain 15 AP’s an hour, and there is a limit to the stored APs you can have (The limit varies per species, as does max health). Ahh well, enough rambling, go get into the game! Once you are there, you can join a group for extra depth, and depending on the group you can work together for ulterior motives (like attacking another groups base). The url is http://www.hellrising.com .
What are you waiting for? Enter the horrors that await in Twilight City!
Besides, my computer runs it perfectly. The other is The Battle for Wesnoth, with is an open source turn based strategy game. It has very good gameplay, despite the rather generic races/moves/maps. It’s good for a free game though… just google either of the games and you’ll find some fun.
